Graduation Planner Module
An interactive class planning tool that assists in optimum course selection and planning through smart system recommendations serving the needs of both students and advisors.
Problem Statement
- Are students indecisive about course planning for an on-time graduation? Do they struggle with sample course schedules provided to them on paper?
- Are they missing on course registrations due to obscure information around prerequisites, course availability, registration priorities, etc.?
- Are your students forced to create only a semester wise plan in absence of course availability projections?
- Are advisors overloaded with reviewing of student’s course planning? Are you struggling to scale?
- Do students struggle to implement changes suggested to their schedule by advisors on paper or via email?
- Do students find it difficult to identify a major that accommodates for maximum earned credits when changing their major?
How the module solves above problems:
-
Provides a system recommended plan to begin with allowing students to customize planning as required.
-
Supports auto approval of plans providing real-time notification about errors in course planning due to missing requisites, course availability, incomplete degree requirements, etc. Automated system approval of plans reduces the need for advisor visits considerably helping improve the advisor-student ratio.
-
Enables advisors and registration departments to define course availability projections that allow students to complete planning for the entire degree.
-
Helps students to stay within credit limits by providing detailed progress graphs, and highlighting impact of changes in planning through opportunity costs and other estimated expenses.
-
Enables students to seek help by submitting the plans to advisors. Allows advisors to either send textual notes or make changes to the plan itself which the student can review individually and then choose to accept or reject.
-
Forecasts on course demand allowing the University to plan much ahead in advance for the required sections in future.
-
Support for “what-if” scenarios for students through creation of alternate plans. System recommendation of majors with least remaining credits after adjusting for their earned credits (shortest path to graduation).
